Jos. A. Bank reports 31 percent profit jump
Men's retailer Jos. A. Bank Clothiers said yesterday that third-quarter profit rose 31 percent even as weak consumer spending has hurt other retailers. The Hampstead company reported net income of $9.3 million, or 50 cents per share, for the quarter ended Nov. 3, compared with $7.1 million, or 38 cents per share, during the corresponding period a year ago. Comparable store sales increased 7 percent, and Internet and catalog sales increased 11.4 percent.
