Bristol-Myers Squibb profit rises 8%
Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. reported yesterday an 8 percent increase in second-quarter profit. The drugmaker reported net income of $764 million, or 38 cents per share, up from $706 million, or 36 cents per share, in the second quarter of 2007. Excluding income from a business being sold and other one-time charges for plant shutdowns, productivity improvements, an acquisition and other items, the company had income of $903 million, or 43 cents per share. Revenue totaled $5.2 billion, up 16 percent from $4.47 billion in the year-ago period.
