Southwest, AirTran code deal suggested
A code-share relationship between Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways would give the two carriers access to each other's passengers and potential gates in new markets, an analyst said yesterday. Southwest could gain entry into airports in Atlanta, La Guardia in New York and Reagan National in Washington, under a partnership with AirTran, Credit Suisse analyst Daniel McKenzie said. Southwest's financial muscle could in turn improve AirTran's balance sheet, he said. The arrangement was suggested in a memo McKenzie put out after Southwest reported second-quarter earnings yesterday.
