Children's Theatre wins regional award
Children's Theatre of Annapolis' January 2008 production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast has received the Ruby Griffith Award for first runner-up for Outstanding Achievement in a Musical.
CTA's Beauty and the Beast was directed by Joe Thompson, with music direction by Eileen Eaton and choreography by Jason Kimmel. Recent Broadneck High School graduate Lindsay Espinosa portrayed Belle, and R.J. Pavel, a rising senior at Archbishop Spalding High School, played the Beast.
CTA was the only children's theater group nominated for the award, which it won last week in competition with adult theater groups from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington.
Griffith was born in London, and her professional career was in the field of theater education. To see a list of all the awards, visit www.rubygriffith.org/rg archive_year.htm.
