Miller says he won't ask Currie to step down
The president of the Maryland Senate said yesterday that Sen. Ulysses Currie's work for a regional grocery chain should be investigated by the General Assembly, but Sen. Thomas V. Mike Miller dismissed speculation that he would ask the Prince George's County Democrat to step down from his leadership post.
Doubt cast on Currie's future
Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller yesterday acknowledged speculation in Annapolis about Sen. Ulysses Currie's future in the General Assembly and said that he may revisit whether the Prince George's County Democrat should remain chairman of a powerful committee when the legislature reconvenes in January.
Currie can get papers
State Sen. Ulysses Currie is entitled to have copies of materials seized from his home during an FBI raid in May, as well as the search warrant affidavit filed by the U.S. attorney's office, federal Magistrate Judge Paul W. Grimm ruled yesterday.
Currie linked to mall plan
State Sen. Ulysses Currie, whose ties to Shoppers Food and Pharmacy are under federal investigation, intervened several times in recent years on behalf of the grocery store chain when it was seeking public financing and other concessions as part of the multimillion-dollar redevelopment of Mondawmin Mall in West Baltimore, according to interviews and records obtained by The Sun.
Campaign funds unlikely to be allowed for Currie's defense
The state attorney general's office has said that Sen. Ulysses Currie may not use campaign funds to pay for his legal defense in a federal investigation if the probe "relates to his conduct in office" - as it appears to do.
Currie pushed for stoplight at Shoppers site
Maryland Sen. Ulysses Currie, who is being investigated by the FBI in connection with his consulting work for Shoppers Food & Pharmacy, apparently pressured state highway officials to expedite a traffic light project near a shopping center where the grocery chain planned to open a store.
Currie papers sought in probe
The state Department of Legislative Services received yesterday a wide-ranging grand jury subpoena from federal prosecutors requesting "all documents relating to the office" of Sen. Ulysses Currie, a leading Prince George's County Democrat who is under investigation by the FBI in connection with his previously undisclosed consulting work for a regional grocery chain.

FBI officials intend to subpoena legislative records in connection with an investigation of Sen. Ulysses Currie, state government sources said, indicating a broadening of the federal probe of the powerful Prince George's County Democrat's previously undisclosed consulting work for a regional grocery chain.
Colleagues stress his integrity
Though he's facing an undefined FBI investigation, this isn't the first time Sen. Ulysses Currie has stared down adversity.
