One dead, one injured in parkway collision
An accident involving a car and a motorcycle on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway left one person dead and forced authorities to close the roadway for hours early yesterday. The crash occurred about 12:10 a.m. just north of the Route 100 ramp. Police said a 1999 Honda Prelude driven by Casey Scott Shibata was traveling south on the parkway when the car drifted off the left side of the roadway. After an investigation, police concluded that the driver of the Honda over-corrected, and the car began to spin clockwise. The Honda entered the slow lane, where it collided with a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle driven by Arthur Lynwood Tyree, police said. Shibata, 34, of Waldorf, was taken by ambulance to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where he was treated and released. Tyree, 41, of Windsor Mill was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he later died.
