Essex man, 26, charged with injuring boy who died

An Essex man has been charged with severely injuring a 2-year-old boy left in his care who later died, Baltimore County police said yesterday. Arron A. Bogan, 26, of the first block of Cedar Drive was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree child abuse, police said. Jordan Adams, his girlfriend's son, died early Friday at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was being treated for head injuries, said Bill Toohey, a police spokesman. Jordan's mother, Heather Meyers, left the boy with Bogan at his apartment for a few hours Oct. 28 and returned to find her son asleep, according to court documents. After she could not wake the boy, she called 911, police said. The boy was taken to Franklin Square Hospital Center and later transferred to John Hopkins Hospital, where doctors operated on him, court documents said. Because of the boy's death, the abuse charge against Bogan might be upgraded, Toohey said.

Winds force grounding of medevac helicopter

A Maryland State Police medevac helicopter made an emergency landing yesterday in a field near Route 543 in Abingdon, authorities said. One patient aboard the aircraft was taken by another helicopter to a hospital, said state police spokesman Greg Shipley. There were no injuries. Heavy winds forced the helicopter to land about 3:30 p.m., Shipley said, and it remained grounded for about three hours. After technicians performed maintenance work, the helicopter returned to service and was flown to Martin State Airport. Three weeks ago, a state police medevac helicopter transporting accident victims to a hospital crashed in Prince George's County, killing three rescuers and one of the auto accident victims, and seriously injuring another patient. It was the deadliest accident since the force started flying medevac missions 38 years ago.
