Worker, 65, killed in fall at Sparrows Point plant
A worker at the Severstal steel plant at Sparrows Point was killed yesterday after he fell from scaffolding while removing coal debris from a conveyor belt, authorities said. The man was identified as Robert George Fuchs, 65, of the 7900 block of Bank St. in Baltimore County's Colgate community. Elise Armacost, a spokeswoman for the county Fire Department, said Fuchs was working on the scaffolding about 10:15 a.m. when he fell. She said large pieces of coal and other debris fell on top of him. Fuchs sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Fuchs' death has been ruled an industrial accident. The Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
