Pick fruits at farm in Woodbine

Larriland Farm, a pick-your-own operation in Woodbine owned and operated by the Moore family since 1973, is offering opportunities to pick blueberries, tart cherries, red raspberries and beets through much of the summer.

Sweet cherries can be picked Thursdays and Saturdays (call for hours). The farm also has an on-site farm market, selling fruits and fudge.

The farm is open 9 a.m. to 8p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Containers are provided. Dogs are not allowed.

Summer camps available for kids

The Glenelg Country School is offering two summer sports camps for boys and girls in grades third through eighth: "Attack" Basketball Camp and "Top-Notch" Sports Camp.

Around town

July 4th The River Hill Community Association will sponsor its ninth Independence Day Parade at 9:30 a.m. Friday. The parade will follow Great Star Drive from Guilford Road to Signal Bell Lane. Great Star Drive will be closed to traffic during the parade; residents are invited to line the road to watch the parade and cheer the participants. River Hill swim teams, Scout troops, the Clarksville Lions, representatives from Dogtopia, Neighbor Ride, Western Howard County Soccer, County Executive Ken Ulman and other officials will march. Volunteers are needed to help with traffic control, assist in the parade staging area and help with a reception for the marchers. Teen space The Glenwood Community Center's gameroom for teens is open 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The room, designed by teens, is for ages 12 and older. It includes a pool table, table tennis, bumper pool and a video game area with a big-screen TV. After-school activities and programs are planned. An identification card from the center is required. The program is provided with assistance from the Horizon Foundation. The center is at 2400 Route 97 in Cooksville. 410-313-4840.

Summer Mom's Connect of Friendship Baptist Church in Sykesville offers opportunities for mothers, grandmothers and their children to share experiences and support each other. The group will meet for a "Summer in the Park" from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. every other Wednesday at Freedom Park in Sykesville. Jennifer Mateer, 410-795-5061 or 410-552-4406.
