Siena's Hasbrouck honored

Gibbons alumnus named Mid-Major All-American

While the Siena College athletics Web site continues to celebrate the school's big upset over Vanderbilt nearly two weeks after the opening-round game in the NCAA men's basketball tournament, the Saints' Kenny Hasbrouck (Cardinal Gibbons) has been honored for his outstanding play this season, which included a dominating performance against the Commodores.

The 6-foot-3 junior guard, who scored 30 points against the fourth-seeded Southeastern Conference school, has been named to CollegeInsider.com's 21-member Mid-Major All-America team. Hasbrouck scored 17 in the second round of the NCAA tournament against Villanova, but it wasn't enough as the 13th-seeded Saints lost, 84-72.

Hasbrouck finished the season second on the team in scoring with a 16.1 average and second in assists at 2.5 a game in addition to averaging 3.3 rebounds. Siena finished the season with a 23-11 record and captured the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships despite two regular-season losses to Loyola.

Hasbrouck was also second on the team last season in scoring with a 16.0 average and was the MAAC Rookie of the Year as a freshman, when he averaged 12.4 points.

Monaghan saves BC

Junior goalkeeper Katie Monaghan (Archbishop Spalding) made a season-high 13 saves to carry Boston College to a 5-4 double overtime victory over then-No. 7 North Carolina last Saturday in a women's lacrosse game.

Monaghan saved the game and forced overtime in the final eight seconds of regulation play when she made she made three consecutive saves with the score tied at 4.

Not only did Monaghan make the initial save, but she also came up with two more stops on rebounds to send the Atlantic Coast Conference game into overtime. Boston College is 2-1 in league play, and Monaghan has been selected Inside Lacrosse magazine's Player of the Week.

Feinberg top rookie

Freshman attackman Andrew Feinberg (McDonogh) scored two important goals for Brown in a 9-6 upset victory over then-No. 14 Delaware last week, giving him three goals in two games for the week. The win gave Brown a five-game winning streak and sent the team into the No. 17 spot in the The Sun's men's rankings.

Feinberg was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for a second time for his outstanding play.

He is second on the Bears in scoring with 12 goals and three assists for 15 points, and he has two game-winning goals.

Jacob rolls on

Georgia Tech freshman long reliever Kevin Jacob (Parkville) has turned in strong performances for the Yellow Jackets this season, pitching 14 1/3 innings in eight appearances.

Jacob, 6 feet 6, has 19 strikeouts, four walks and a 2.51 ERA. Hitters were batting .263 against him through yesterday. No. 14 Georgia Tech is 24-5 overall and 8-4 in the ACC.
