Fewer LPGA events planned for 2009

Even while insisting next year will be "solidly profitable," the LPGA Tour announced that it will offer three fewer tournaments in 2009 than this year, all because of sponsorship loss. Prize money also will dip by about $5 million.

College basketball: Top-ranked North Carolina said 7-foot freshman Tyler Zeller will likely miss the rest of the season with a broken left wrist he suffered late in Tuesday night's win over Kentucky.

More college basketball: The NCAA announced that the men's Final Four will be played at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium in Arlington in 2014. It also awarded the 2016 men's Final Four to Houston. Those games will be played at Reliant Stadium, home of the Houston Texans. The 2012 Final Four will be played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, with finals awarded to Atlanta's Georgia Dome in 2013 and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis in 2015.

Soccer: Former D.C. United player Freddy Adu scored his first goal as a member of the U.S. national team to help the Americans win, 2-0, over Guatemala in a World Cup qualifier in Commerce City, Colo. The victory prevented Guatemala (1-3-2) from advancing out of Group1. The U.S. (5-1) already had a spot in next year's regional finals. ... Maxi Rodriguez scored to give Diego Maradona a winning start as Argentina's coach with a 1-0 exhibition victory over host Scotland.

Tennis: Carole Caldwell Graebner, who won doubles titles at the U.S. and Australian championships in the 1960s, died yesterday. She was 65. Graebner died in New York after a brief battle with cancer.
